Final Farewell

It's hard to believe - the year has flown by!  I want all of my parents to know what a pleasure it has been to know and teach all of your children.  They are all very special in their own way and I wish all the best in middle school and beyond!

I will leave my students with these final thoughts:

"Grow where you are planted" and always strive to be the best that you can be!

Best wishes to all and have a wonderful, relaxing summer!

Fabulous February

Thanks to all of you who attended your child's conference in January.  I enjoyed meeting all of you to discuss and share information concerning the educational and social growth of your student.  Your participation and support is always appreciated.

We continue to focus on fractions in math and  encourage practicing the basic multiplication/division math facts as we use them in all areas covered throughout the year.

We are also reading Hatchet for our current novel study.  I will be sending home information in this weeks Thursday folder with book report ideas for your child to choose from as well as a form for you and your child to sign indicating his or her choice.  This will count as a reading grade so want to make certain you are aware of the assignment and the due date.  Also, keep up the good work with the Reading Logs.  Reading independently is a great way to improve academic skills in all areas.

Again I hope you all found your child's conference both informative and helpful.  Please continue to encourage your child to work up to their full potential and use the Information provided for the CRCT practice online.  I look forward to a successful second half of the school year!

Important Dates for February:

2/5               PTA Meeting

2/6               Early Release

2/12             Atlanta Symphony

2/18 - 2/19   Presidents Day holiday

2/20 - 2/21   Human Growth and Development

Have  a fabulous February!

January 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful holiday break and have returned ready to take on the second half of the school year.

I would like to begin by thanking all of the you for the great gifts I received before the holiday. Also, your generous donations made our holiday celebration a success and the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves.  Special thanks goes to Shawn Morrill for purchasing all of the food and goodies for our celebration.  I'm glad some parents were able to join us and for the food and fun!

Moving on to the New Year!  We have begun a new math unit which covers basic number theories (ie. fact families, divisibilty, etc.)  which will lead us into fractions.  Knowledge of multiplication and division facts continue to be a major part of all units of study in math so continue to stress that with your children.

Conferences are right around the corner and I look forward to meeting all of you.  We will discuss grades, CRCT preparation and any other topics or concerns you may have regarding the progress of your child as they prepare to transition into middle school.  If you are unable to attend your child's conference, their report card will be sent home on January 29th.

As always, thanks for your continued support and keep checking those Thursday folders and signing  agendas!

The holidays are fast approaching and we are focusing on "wrapping up" the nine weeks.  Continue to encourage your children to do their best work until our holiday break begins.

Our class holiday celebration will be on Wednesday, December 19th beginning at 12:30.  We voted to have pizza, drinks and other snacks instead of the usual lunch in the lunchroom. We will also be making an edible sweet treat and enjoy visiting with our friends.  Join us for the food and fun!

I sincerely hope that you all have a wonderful holiday with family and friends and I look forward to a fabulous new year!
