15 Days and Counting

- Big Shanty teachers and students will particiapte in Relay for Life on Monday, May 4.

-  With CRCT over, we will begin Spelling next week.

-  We are studying Pollution and Conservation.

- We have only three weeks of school left and the weather is getting hotter. All students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school daily. Even though we have a water fountain in the class, it is distracting for students to get up for a sip every few minutes.

-  All mothers are invited to join us for tea at 1:00pm on May 8.

Count Down..... Last Nine Weeks of the School Year !

                            - Report cards will be going home March 19th.

                            - Spring Break will be April 6-10 2009.

 

Parents you will find a Weekly Reading and Math log in your child's binder. Please continue to read with your child 20 minutes a night and wright the name of the book on the line provided on your child's log. Also, please practice nightly with your child his/her math facts for 10 minutes. After you have read and practiced Math Facts with your child then sign on the correct day of the week. I thank you for working with your child to get the nightly practice he/she needs to be successful.

News for you!

-CRCT pilot testing dates are Thursday February 19, Monday February 23 and Tuesday February 24.

-Spelling will resume the week of February 23.

-Tuesday March 3 is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:00.

February updates

Our class is in need of donations of kleenex, disinfecting wipes, and healthy daily snacks. Your kind donation would be very much appreciated.

Please spend between 10 and 20 minutes each day reading with your child. It would be very helpful if you read a page and then let them reread it and ask them comprehension questions about what they just read.

Monday, February 9 will be Mrs. KuKu's last day with us and we have enjoyed her wonderful smile and support. Ms. Jones will return on February 10.

Remember February 16  is a student holiday.

Happy 100th Day of School

January 22, 2009 is day 100 for this school year. Students had a very special lunch and we practiced our skip counting. Only 80 more days to go! However, we still have lots of goals and standards to cover.

The week of January 26 through the 30 will be our first Conference Week of the school year. Students will be dismissed at 12:10 each day. If you have forgotten your time and date to meet with me, please write  a note in your child's notebook, email me at Suzanne.Sommer@cobbk12.org, or call the school office at 678-594-8053. I am looking forward to seeing all of you.

Students will still have spelling next week. Please check their notebooks for nightly homework assignments. Next week is lesson 13.

In math please review activities in 3rd 9 weeks parent letter. They have been doing a wonderful job with fraction addition and subtraction.

Mark your calendars for our school CRCT night on February 3 from 6:30-7:30. You will view a power point with information regarding this test.

Winter Break

  Winter Break will begin on December 22, 2008. Students will return to school on Tuesday January 6, 2009. We wish every one a wonderful time and a great New Year. Please read with your child every day. There will be no school on Monday January 19, 2009.

Thanksgiving Break

 There will be no school November 24 - November 28, 2008.  Have a safe and wonderful vacation. Just a reminder you can use spellingcity.com for practice with spelling and multiplication.com for times tables practice. Also, please check Mrs. Puckett's blog for homeroom updates.
