CRCT

Dmbtest The CRCT will be here before we know it!  Let's work together to prepare your child for this state-wide assessment.  During Spring Break, your child will have a packet to work on.  So be on the lookout for that!  Also, you will find some great resource links below for information on the CRCT and practice tests.

Information and study guides ~ The main page informs you about the CRCT.  On the right side, the blue box of "Study Guides" has practice tests for all subject areas, answers, and explanation of answers

Georgia Online Assessment ~ Practice tests that the 3rd grade teachers created for all subject areas.  You must use the login and password that was sent home in January.

Carnival

If you are donating to the Disney Basket for our classroom, we need these items as soon as possible.  The baskets are due April 15.

March

The end of the third nine weeks is almost here.  Monday we will be celebrating Read Across America with Dr. Seuss.  Our class is coming to school dressed as their favorite Seuss character.  On Tuesday the fourth don't forget it is early release day.  Report cards will come home on March the 20th.

This next nine weeks we will begin our narrative writing and poetry.  We will be reading narrative texts and poetry.  In Math, we will be extending multiplication and division 2 or 3 digit by 1 digit.  In Social Studies, we will be studying communities around the world.  In Science, we will learn about Heat, Magnets, conservation and recycling.

Reminder: Please be sure to send in the permission slip for the Performing Arts field trip.

Coming home Monday:  State Treasure Chest Project.  This should be a lot of fun and can involve the whole family.  I look forward to seeing the final results.

Many students are running low on pencil erasers.  We have pencils but have put our erasers to good use.  If you would like to send in pencil erasers we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank  you for all the cards, flowers, and special goodies during Teacher Appreciation Week.  This has been a wonderful treat.

New Year

We are excited to be past the 100 day mark.  Our class is busy working toward the CRCT.  It was wonderful to meet with each of you at conference time.  It is great to have such supportive parents.

Math- we are learning about measurements of all kinds.  We are also learning about fractions.  We are finding out fractions are a lot of fun.  I have assigned the students an at home project-Measuring Penny.  Please remind your child to work on this project daily.  They do not want to wait until the last minute and not be prepared to turn it in.

Writing- we are practicing the art of persuasion.  We are learning to write convincingly.  Please be sure to notice your child's Thursday folder and look for their latest piece of writing.

Reading-we have just completed Mr. Popper's Penguins.  We used this novel to compare realistic to unrealistic fiction. We also have read some short works in class.  This has been a great unit.  We will begin The Boxcar Children next.  We will compare this book to Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Science-we are finishing up with our habitat unit. We have combined measurement with our science unit which has made it much more interesting.

Social Studies-we are gearing up to study government.  This is a great time to do this with our upcoming Presidential election.  Watch for a government packet that should be coming home in the next few weeks.

I am sending home a permission slip to see the Cobb Performing Arts.  Please send these back in as soon as possible.

Season Greetings

  • We will be celebrating the seasons with Sharing Through The Seasons.  This is a book share starting Monday, December 10th.  Your child will read a story and then share a memento with the class.  For example, if I read The Gingerbread Boy, I would give everyone gingerbread cookies.
  • Holidays around the World will be December 13th.  Our class will be sharing the holidays of Africa.

  • Continue to practice Multiplication Facts through out the week.

  • Winter Holidays begin December 24th.  Students return January 8th.  The last day of the second nine weeks is December 21st.
  • We will be having a class Holiday Breakfast on Wednesday, December 19th.  I will be sending home a sign up sheet for this event.
