Welcome back all! I hope that everone had a restful and exciting break. I know that I enjoyed spending time with my family and relaxing. I am ready now for the new year and many exciting adventures for the second half of the year.
Thank you to all who volunteered or sent items for our Winter Celebration. It was a wonderful success. The students had so much fun decorating gingerbread houses. Special thanks to Mrs. MacGillivary, our room mom, for organizing the event!
There are many new things to remind you of for this new year. Below is a list of several things that are happening in the coming weeks.
General Reminders:
- Report cards are sent home Friday, January 11. Please remember to return the signature card in the envelope by Monday, January 14. If you have any questions, I will be glad to address them by email, phone, or at conferences.
- There is no school on Monday, January 21 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
-Conference week starts Tuesday, January 22 and goes until Monday, January 28. Tenative times will be sent home Tuesday, January 8. Please sign and return if the time is convenient. If not, please follow directions on the sheet so I can schedule a convenient time for you. Please return these BY JANUARY 14.
- We have a field trip to the Cherokee Youth Musuem in February. The date is pending, but be expecting to see a permission sheet soon in Thursday Folders.
Homework/curriculum Updates:
- I have made a new reading log and spelling contract. Please encourage your child to read and follow directions CAREFULLY.
- For the rest of this year, students will be expected to complete a Book Report each month (1). The topic may depend on what genre we are studying. For example, in the 3rd nine weeks, we are beginning informational reading and writing, so books may be based on this. Expect to see report ideas and rubrics coming soon!
- The students will be going to Mrs. Harris' class for science. The will have a Windy-ful time learning about weather patterns and instruments. Ask them about what they are learning and I am sure they will have lots to tell!
