It is hard to believe that this is the last “Lally Letter” for the 2008-2009 school year.  The year has gone by so quickly.  It has been a joy to work with your children each and every day.  I have watched them grow and learn.  As they will tell you, 4th grade was hard, but I know they are ready for 5th grade and the challenges it will bring.  Thank you for being such wonderful parents.  Your children are very lucky to have such supportive and caring parents.  I cannot thank you enough for all you have done this year for your child and me.  I hope you have a wonderful and safe summer.

    Class News

·          Please send in two stamps so that your child’s report card can be mailed home this summer.  If I do not receive two stamps, the report card will not be mailed.  It will be available for pickup at the school.

·          Thank you Mrs. Aldridge and Mrs. Hult for being our room moms this year.  It has been great to work with you!

·          Thank you Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Mehta for being our AR room moms.  You have gotten the students excited about reading.  Our class earned over 2,200 AR points this year!  Fantastic!!!

·          The cafeteria will be having a Fiesta Day on Wednesday, May 20th.  Sounds yummy!  Plan to wear your “fiesta” wear.  It sounds like fun!

·          No lunch charges accepted next week.

·          Next Thursday will be the last day to take anything home on the bus.  Please bring a bag, paper or plastic, to take home all belongings.  If your child brings lunch on Friday, please put it in a paper sack so that it can be thrown away after lunch.  I will supply all materials for the last day of school.

·          Please send a transportation reminder for all changes in schedule the last week of school.  Thanks!

    Class News

·          Thank you so much, Mrs.  Aldridge, for staying with the class while I enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by PTA. during “Teacher Appreciation Week.”

·          ONLINE ASSESSMENT SYSTEM- Attached to top of the page was your child’s testing number and password.  Please KEEP this paper.  This information allows your child to go online and begin taking practice tests for the CRCT.  This is a great way to prepare for the test.  I know April is a long time away but as we all know time passes quickly.  “Practice with consistency” is the key to using this program.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

·          We have begun writing a research paper.  There are several due dates for this project throughout the month of March.  These dates are included in the information packet. As a culminating activity for this project, the students will be presenting their projects at Author’s Night on March 31st.  Mark your calendars!  Due to this major project, the students will not have an assigned book report for the month of March.  Once again, the students will be expected to read nightly and record this information on their reading log due March 31st.

·          Mark your calendars…Spring Fling, April 17th, 5:30-8:30

It is time to begin donating items for our classroom basket.  Our theme this year is “Just Desserts.”  You can send in your items and I will forward them to our room moms.  Each class is responsible for donating 8 cakes.  If you would be willing to donate a cake, please let me know.  Finally, each student is asked to donate one 12 pack of Coke, Diet Coke or Sprite.  Just send in the sodas with your child and I will forward them to PTA.  I appreciate your support.

·          Please send a transportation reminder for Young Rembrandts, Drama Kids, foreign language club, and chorus as these require a change in transportation too.  Thanks!

      Just a Reminder

·        Every Friday is school spirit day!  Wear your spirit wear on Fridays!  Spirit wear can be ordered from PTA.

·       Each Thursday the Progress Update, graded papers, Lally’s Letter, and other important papers will be sent home in the Thursday Folder.  Please review these papers with your child.  The Progress Update is to be signed and returned the next day along with the Thursday Folder.

·       Please sign and review your child’s planner daily.

·       Students are to read for, at least, 20 minutes every night and record the information on the reading log.

·       All transportation changes must be put in writing.  Please don not send transportation changes by email.

·       Please check your child’s lunch balance.  This is a prepay program.

·     If your child is absent, please send a note explaining the absence when your child returns to school.

·     Study basic math facts nightly.

·     Spelling test are given every Friday unless otherwise noted in the weekly newsletter.

·     The “256 No Excuse Word List” are words that your child should never misspell.  Please continue to work on these words at home.

·     The “4th Grade Dictionary List contains the words that are found on the weekly Core Word tests.  Please continue to practice these words at home too.

·          This will be the LAST “Lally Letter” in paper format.  Beginning next week, you will find the “Lally Letter” on my Blog.   Go to the Big Shanty website.  On the left column under “Staff” click 4th Grade and then Lally.  Communication between home and school is so important.  I hope you will find this format user friendly.

·          Thank you so much for making “Teacher Appreciation Week” special.  The flowers were beautiful and still look lovely on my table.  The notes were sweet and kind.  They mean so much to me and they are hanging up in our classroom.  The school supplies were greatly appreciated the paper, the colorful dry erase markers, notepads and more.  I am very lucky to have such great students and such caring, thoughtful parents.  Your children are very lucky too!
