Last Minute CRCT Tips!

Dear Parents~

 

Here are a few reminders about CRCT and other upcoming events!

 

• Welcome Back to Rasheeda!!!

 

• CRCT begin on Wednesday, April 18^th and ends Tuesday, April 24th.

 

• PLEASE be on time! A good rule to follow is: If you’re on time…You’re already late! Please give your child enough time to settle in and not be rushed before the test.

 

• Early to bed, early to rise, eat a good breakfast, is a decision that’s wise!

 

• Send your child with a sweater or sweatshirt…oh, and clean socks, so he/she can take off their shoes during the test.

 

• If you would like to send in happy notes to be placed on your child’s desk each morning…the deadline is Tuesday. Please label them with your child’s name.

 

• Keep it positive! This is your child’s time to shine! No worries….they will all do great!

 

• If you are scheduled to send a snack…please don’t forget! They will be hungry when that test is over. Grrrr…can you hear their stomachs?

 

• Spring Carnival is Friday, April 27^th. Watch for ticket order forms.

 

• Carnival Basket--- please send in items. I believe our theme is Picnic/BBQ.

 

• Author’s Night is Thursday, May 3^rd. We will be hosting a “Poetry Café” and will be reading our poems from our poetry book ~ which, by the way, should be here soon.

Spring has Sprung!

Hello Parents!

Well, we made it! It is now the final stretch of fifth grade..the last 9 weeks! There will be many big events coming up over the next few months and it will be important to keep your calendar updated.

*Spring Break is April 2-6th

*CRCT begins April 18th

*May 3rd is Author's Night

*May 11th is Field Day

Many fifth grade events with also be coming up at the end of May...watch for those dates!

Coming Up....

Here are a few upcoming events to keep in mind!

• Immigration Day is January 27th from 10:45-11:45. If you volunteered to help that day, please wear black or dark colored pants/long skirt, white shirt, maybe a tie, black or dark jacket, and a hat that looks official...if you have one.
• Yearbook ads are due the end of this week. Please go to the following link if you are interested in placing a family ad congratulating your fifth grader.   www.bigshantyyearbook.com
• Human Growth and Development is February 16 and 17th. Please sign the permission slip that is coming home in Thursday Folder today. Without the slip, your child will be unable to attend.
• March 7th Fifth grade Writing Assessment
• Final payments for the fifth grade field trip is due Jan. 27th. If we do not have sufficient funds, the trip may be cancelled.
• Science Projects for Mrs. Douglas's science class are due February 8th.
• We are working on Middle School Readiness skills! This includes: turning in all homework, good behavior, being responsible, and many other skills. Please continue to reinforce  these skills at home.

Hello Big Shanty Parents!

Welcome back to the second half of the school year!We have many great things going on over the next few weeks and I wanted to make you aware of a few of them.

 First, report cards will be going home on Friday. Please sign the card and send it back in the envelope on Monday. If you would like to get a jump start on things...you can put two stamps on the envelope for final report cards at the end of the year.

 Second, This week's Thursday Folder is packed!!! Please look carefully through all the information being sent home. Included in the folder is a slip of paper telling you how much you owe for the fifth grade trip. If you do not owe anything...it states "Paid in Full!"

Third, Immigration Day will be held on Friday, January 27th from 10:45-11:45 in our class room. I will need 5-6 volunteers to come be "Immigration Agents". I am asking that you dress like an immigration agent in black/dark blue pants, suit jacket, and some type of hat. Your job will not be difficult, but is a crucial part of the day. If you are interested please email me.

Also, I have given your kids a research assignment to do from home about their family history. I realize that some information may not be found...but would like to get the kids talking to relatives, grandparents, and you about where their ancestors came from. I appreciate any and all help you can provide for this assignment.

 Finally, Thank you to everyone who came to, brought things, and helped with the holiday party. It was great fun and wonderful to see all of you there. Thank you all for your generosity with the many Christmas gifts and cards that your children gave to me! It is an amazing feeling to know how much you all care. On that same note, please keep Rasheeda in your thoughts and prayers. She is back in the hospital, but will hopefully be coming home soon!

Moving Forward!

Hello! Hello! Hello!

Time is flying by this year. It is hard to believe our holiday break is almost here! There are many things going on over the next few weeks. Here are a few reminders to help you keep it all straight!!

First, Thank you for the amazing outpouring of love and concern for Rasheeda and her family! You all have incredible children with huge hearts! Thanks you for all the positive thoughts!

Second, Parent Math Night is Tuesday, December 6th from 6:30-7:30! Be there or be square...or maybe a rectangle, or triangle! :)

Next, Wednesday, December 7th we are going to the symphony. I have spoken to the kids about dressing up for this event. It would be wonderful to see all the kids looking elegant and handsome for this day. Please don't go buy new clothes, but find something casually dressy  to wear.

On December 14th your child has a five paragraph essay due for Mrs. Vann's science class. It was assigned on November 18th and is a fiction story on the topic of " If I were as small as an atom...."! I thought it was a good idea to let you know, so you can keep an eye on their progress.

Finally, our holiday party is on December 22nd from 1-2pm. I hope to see you all there. Please remember that December 23rd there is no school due to a teacher furlough day.

Hello Parents!

 I hope you have all been enjoying this beautiful fall weather.Just a few quick points of interest to tell you about this week. Mark your calendar with a few upcoming dates.

*Thank you again for a great conference week! I feel that all the conferences went very well and that we are on point to move forward for the next few months.

*The Science Fair is November 10th at 6:30. Come join the fun and view many exciting projects.

*Thanksgiving Break is November 21-25. Gobble til you wobble!

*December 2nd the second $20.00 payment is due for those attending the fifth grade trip.

*December 7th the fifth grade will be going to the symphony. I will let your child know if I have not received their permission slip. The slips went home at the very beginning of the year as Performing Arts information.
