Economics Day: Class Trade Fair
We will close out the school year with an in-depth study of World War II and economics. In order to truly understand supply, demand, production, pricing, wages, etc, our class will hold a Trade Fair on Thursday, May 15th. Each child should bring some handcrafted or homemade goods to school to trade with other students. These items should be inexpensive and made primarily from things found around your home or neighborhood. Examples from past years include friendship bracelets, baked goods, bookmarks, pet rocks, and clay jewelry. The children may bring as many or as few items as they like, but they must bring something. Only bring one type of item. For example, bring all friendship bracelets, not friendship bracelets and candles. Your child is the company’s only employee which means they are responsible for making the items and cleaning up any resulting mess.
Start thinking today about what to bring and begin collecting the necessary materials. Though the Trade Fair is not until Thursday, May 15th, we will be working on advertisements next week, so be sure you have chosen your item to make by then. This is such an exciting way to learn about economics!
