Welcome back to Big Shanty! I am very excited to begin my second year and to see both familiar and new faces. We all look forward to working with your children and helping them achieve great success.
If you send a snack with your child, please be sure it is a healthy one. Also only water should be sent in for consumption in our classrooms. This year we have several students with severe allergies, some even life threatening. I ask that you cooperate with any special requests concerning food in the classroom from our teachers.
There are many ways that you can help your child be successful at school. Below are a few ideas:
1. Spend time talking with your child about his/her school day.
2. Check your child's agenda daily ( these will be distributed toward the end of the first week). It is an effective communication tool. Thanks to our PTA for funding one agenda for each student.
3. On Thursday evening look for the "Thursday folder". It will contain useful information and samples of your child's work.
4. Volunteer to help your child's teacher whenever possible. From time to time, let her/him know how much you appreciate their dedication.
5. If you see a problem, contact the teacher immediately. You should have a response within 24 hours.
6. Attend conference and school events. You are also welcome to visit classes but we ask that you contact the teacher ahead of time. There are times, such as tests, when visitors may be a distraction. Our lunch room staff also welcomes to have lunch with your child.
Again welcome to Big Shanty and the 2008-2009 school year.
