P.E. FITNESS TESTING AND FIELD DAY!!

In P.E. we are finishing up fitness testing.  Many children are earning a fitness award who did not earn one in the Fall.  That means they are in better shape and maybe even more motivated!!  Congratulations on all your hard work.

Please dress in layers now that the weather is getting warmer.  Don't forget tennis shoes and if you want, a water bottle with your name on it for class.

Field Day is on  Friday, May 15th, and a rain date of Monday, May 18th.  We have many fun new activities for the students to try.  We need your help to make this happen.  If you have not returned your volunteer form yet please send it in.  You can always email us in the PE department if you don't have the form.  Nancy.Cobelli@cobbk12.org

Thank you for all your support.

Jump Rope For Heart

Our students did a fantastic job for the American Heart Association.  We raised over $8,000 this year's Jump Rope For Heart.  We are proud of all of you did!

Our fitness testing will start in late March.  Start now by practicing at home.  We would love for every student to receive an award!  We will be taking the Presidential Fitness test and the FitnessGram.  Work on some part every day and you will be awesome!

Here is a picture of parachute fun from last week in the gym.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

Big Shanty Intermediate is getting ready for Jump Rope For Heart. (JRFH)  Here at Big Shanty we jump rope during class time and everyone participates.  The fund raising forms are coming home with your child on Thursday, January 15.  We encourage our students to raise money for The American Heart Association but it is not mandatory.  JRFH will take place starting on Monday, February 2nd through Tuesday, February 10th.

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for Americans?  Stroke is the leading cause of disability .  High Blood Pressure is often called the "Silent Killer" because many people do not know they have it until there is a heart problem.  The Heart Association does research and education to reduce the number of people afflicted each year.

WHEN YOUR CHILD COLLECTS MONEY FOR THIS GREAT CAUSE PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH OR COINS TO SCHOOL. INSTEAD, CONVERT THE MONEY INTO A CHECK MADE OUT TO THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION.

As always thank-you for your support and generosity for this worthwhile event.

The Y-Tie success!

We want to thank all of you who have supported the PE Department with the purchase of Y-Ties.  The totals aren't in yet, but it has been a great fund raiser for PE equipment!  And, the bonus is, the children's shoes are neat and tidy!

We are inside these days with the colder weather.  Hopefully, after the winter break, we will have some weather that allows us to get outside.  We have just finished units in Basketball and Volleyball. The kids enjoyed them.  The next few days before the break, we will be doing a variety of games or a little dancing.  What fun!

Coming up after the break, we will be doing  juggling, tumbling and 4 square.  These are units all the students enjoy.  They like getting to spend time improving their own skills and challenging themselves, as opposed to a team sport.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO EARNED FITNESS AWARDS

Fitness testing is complete, the fitness awards have been ordered, and we are so proud of all our students.   Many students earned a Presidential or National fitness award.  Presidential means the student scored in the 85% or better for their age group. National means the student scored 50% -84% for their age group.

Please click on this link to view the names of our students who earned an award!

Getting Fit Through Fun

The Presidential Fitness Test and the Fitnessgram testing are almost done.  We still have a few students who need to make up the mile run.  Many have seen an improvement from the previous year and some students have a better understanding of what areas they need to work on to improve overall fitness.

Our next units are frisbee, and football.  We have many fun and interesting activites for our students to try.  We are focusing on accuracy and good form in throwing, and various ways to catch.

Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping with recording scores during fitness testing.  We are very appreciative of your time and efforts!

Please remember to wear sneakers on P.E. days, and dress in layers as the weather gets cooler.
