Three Weeks of 4th Grade -- We are the Gremlins

We are the Gremlins and we live in the Grotto.  We know how to process our Giggle Slips and are very familiar with contribution and pollution points.  We are recycling champions and we sort our spelling words by feature.  Fourth grade isn't too bad, at least we have recess at 9:00 am. and a class pet named Carrot.  read the Gremiln Giggles hereDownload Green's Giggles week 3 y3

Directions for parents:

Ask your Gremlin about the water cylcle bags we made today. 

Follow this link to the weekly newsletter which has information about the Grotto. 

Please be sure to sign the Giggle Slip that is stapled to your child's agenda.  Gremlins must turn these in on Friday.

Directions for Gremlins:

Get a good night's sleep.

Talk to your parents about the water cycle, using the vocabulary:  evaporation, condensation, water vapor, precipitation.

Tell your parents that we have PE every other day--so be prepared clothing-wise.  We bagan this week with Monday, Wednesday, Friday.  Next week we will have it Tuesday, Thursday.

I took the CRCT. 4th grade is finished--WRONG!!!

What is a student pellet and how does it apply to an owl pellet and food chain?  Why would I prefer to take a canal boat on the Erie Canal and not a wagon to go west?  What are the Oregon Trail and the California Gold Rush?  Does that equation balance?  Word-form, why do I have to read in math?  How will I express animal adaptaion in haiku?  How does my novel end?  Why was it important to read it?  What weird poem will Mrs. Green have for us to analyze next week?

These and other pressing questions will be answered during the next three weeks, in which I will continue to teach curriculum and I expect each Gremlin to behave and learn.  The school year has not ended with the completion of the TEST!

Science Thanks!

My heartfelt thanks to eveyone who has contributed to our hands-on science labs!

AJ's family has arranged for owl pellets for every student!

Kevin's family provided the cupcakes for the eco-system and mining lab!  As well as the popcorn for the food chain acitivity!

Maddison's family sent in the yarn for the food chain activity!

Numerous families have sent in contributions for materials.  We will have many more labs in the next weeks because of your generosity.

NO SPELLING THIS WEEK and other unbelieveable facts

Due to CRCT testing, there will be no spelling test or crossword this week.  No reading log will be due on Friday either.  Keep reading every night, though.  Remember, practice skills to keep sharp!

We will update our science book glossary and begin to write our Food Chain-Food Web story, review math and language arts skills and science and social studies topics.

Academic alerts will go home on Friday, with signatures due on Monday of the following week.  Keep informed by logging into engrade.com.

Upcoming events include a gently used book sale held by the student council and field day.  Please consider donating books no longer read at your house to the sale and unused big wheel toys to field day.

Ms. Jones' last day with us is coming up soon.

Mr. Green, Emily and myself really appreciate all of the wonderful kindnesses you have bestowed upon us these past three weeks.  I am truly blessed to be a part of your lives this year.  Thank you!

View grades online and keep up with your Gremlin

We're coming into the home stretch and No Spring Fever is allowed in the Grotto.  We must keep our head in the game and learn all the rest of the information that is required of 4th grade.  Even after the CRCT, we will continue to learn new things and practice skill so that we are prepared for 5th grade.

One way to help your Gremlin is to check the online gradebook.  If you have already logged in, keep viewing!  If you need to establish an account, the webiste and login is in your child's agenda.  I generally update weekly. 

We will continue to read and write and learn about science, social studies and health through the last week of school.  Be prepared for a spelling test on the last day of class.
