Dictionary Instructions

How to Complete a Dictionary Assignment

Every dictionary assignment must include the following elements:

1. Word—the word to be defined must be spelled correctly.                                                  4 pts.
2. Definition – copied from the dictionary, science book, social studies book                            4 pts.
3. Pronunciation key and part of speech—copied correctly                                                      4 pts.
4. Illustration—showing the meaning of the word, in color                                                       4 pts.
5. Original sentence –using the word, all parts spelled correctly, nouns and verbs agree and includes correct punctuation        4 pts.                                                   

Dictionary assignments may be completed in many different forms.  Generally the format will be chosen by the students at the beginning of the week.  Students must adhere to the agreed-upon format.

Breaking News in Social Studies and Science

There are great hurricane photos on the internet.  Please look at these with your Gremlin!

Attached is a study guide for our Native American Unit.  Questions 7 and 31 do not pertain to our studies at this time.  The short answer questions are excellent practice for CRCT in April.  We did not study the Ice Age.Download native_american_peoples_study_guide.pdf   Answers are included at the back of the guide.  I will not send this home.  Please print this at home if you wish your Gremlin to work through it.  I anticipate the exam in a few weeks, depending on how quickly we all learn the material.

Please send in a shoebox for a diorama on Native American Peoples.  We will need this by 29 Sept.

5 weeks of school -- oh my!

We have begun to learn about native American cultures, and are continuing our investigation of water with the study of weather.  Individual reading books have been assigned and for the most part, the rituals and routines of fourth grade are established.  Please encourage yor Gremlin to use his/her time wisely.  Enjoy the attached Giggles.Download greens_giggles_week_5_y08.pdf
