**Immigration Day was a great success! Thank you to Mrs. Pardo, Mrs. Walls, and Mrs. Jaberizadeh for volunteering. We couldn't have done it without you!!!

**Mrs. Koroly is unable to be our room parent any longer. If you are interested in helping out, it would be greatly appreciated! The carnival basket is coming up and our class needs help! Thank you to Mrs. Koroly for helping out the first part of the year.

**We are $1400 short for the 5th grade field trip. If we do not reach this amount by early this week, the field trip will be cancelled. If you have not already, please plan on paying the full amount due.

**We will have a test on the verb unit in our GUMS book. Your child should be studying this unit this week to help prepare.

On Friday, January 27th our class will be taken back in time to the days of immigration at Ellis Island, Angel Island, and even immigrants who came into the USA through Galvaston, Texas. Students are encouraged to dress in period clothing for this reenactment. Possible ideas include:

-shawls, long skirts, and sweaters for girls

-trousers, suit jackets, hats (NOT baseball caps) for boys

-ALL clothing should be earth tone colors, old fashion patterns, or faded/muted colors

-Dig through all closets in your household to try to find some items to wear

-Don’t feel like you need to purchase anything. If so, keep in mind thrift stores.

-Feel free to look online for ideas for clothing

**Please note that we will be using chalk to mark clothing during the simulation.

Also, we need parent volunteers to help make this day possible. This is a great opportunity for parents to get involved!

100th Day of School
We are going to be celebrating our 100th day of school on Friday, January 27th. We have planned a fun probability and graphing math activity. To help us see the different ways 100 looks, we are asking that each child bring 100 pennies to school in a Ziploc baggie.

When we are finished we would like to donate the 100 pennies to our 5th grade fund for our upcoming trip! Please send in the 100 pennies by Wednesday, January 25.

Symphony Trip
On Wednesday, December 7th, the 5th grade will take a field trip to the symphony. The buses will arrive around 9ish. The teachers are the ONLY chaperones on this trip. Ideally, we will return in time to eat lunch at the school.

Important: Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for going to the symphony. Your child's first selection should be black, gray, or brown pants. If you do not have these items, then khakis should be the next choice. If all of these choices are not in your closet, then you may go for the dark black denim. Ladies, you may wear your dresses and skirts appropriate for the weather. The goal is for you child to find the nicest outfit in his/her closet and have that be what they wear on Wednesday.

November 14: Canned Food Drive ends (Please bring in your canned food items to help those in need!)

Big Shanty is collecting canned food items for families in need. Each classroom has a box for these cans. Then, all of the boxes will be collected and sorted. These food items will go to families who need help providing a Thanksgiving meal for their family. I strongly encourage your child to take just a dollar or two of their allowance to purchase a can or more of food items. Such a small and simple act that can positively impact someone else. What a great lesson for your child to learn! Let's really start bringing in those cans!

Field Trip information went home yesterday for the 5th grade trip to Tennessee.

*The cost will be $60 per student. This can be paid at once or by installments on 10/7, 12/2, 1/27.

*If your child is interested in a 5th grade t-shirt, the price will be $5 if paid for by October 7. The price will increase after that date.

The students are anticipating this trip and very excited. It will be a great experience!

It was great seeing everyone that attended Open House!

*Please make sure your child turns in lunch money to the cafeteria before 7:50. You can always manage your child's account at www.mealpayplus.com .

*September 5th is Labor Day. This is a holiday for students and staff.

*Please make sure you sign your child's agenda every night.

*Scholastic Book Orders are due September 1.
