Great Start to 2009

We are working so hard on all of our reading and writing skills.  Keep working on those AR points and discuss what you are reading!!  We have one student over 100 points and closing in on 200 points!!

In math we will be working on geometry and measurement for the next two months.  Keep reviewing all fifth grade skills with the CRCT in mind.

In science we are working with Mrs. Ashmeade on biology.  In social studies, we are studying American history post Civil War.  We watched the inauguration on the 19th and wrote about our impressions.

What wonderful "random acts of kindness" our fifth graders completed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the holiday we celebrated in his memory.

Conference Week is the 26th - 30th.  Remember students are dismissed two hours early!  I look forward to meeting with each of you then!

Reminder:  Field Trip to Huntsville, AL money is due at any time.

Thanks for all your work,

Mrs. Fabian

Halloween Madness

It is Halloween week.  We have had Brandon's mom and Luke's mom have offered to send in treats sometime this week.  Reminder:  No costumes on Friday!  It will be business as usual.

It is also Drug Awareness Week.  The flyer came home last week describing our various activities.

We are still collecting canned goods for our food drive.  Thanks to all who have contributed.  We are working on our second box.

Keep reading, reading, reading!!

Keep practicing those math facts and reviewing math concepts.  We are diving into fractions and will be working on them until Christmas break.

Thanks for all your support!

October is Here Already!!!

Upcoming Math Night!!!!!

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1008 (PTA night) is Math Night.  Please plan to attend!  Education students from KSU have planned many math events for students from Kindergarten through fifth grade.  This should be a wonderful night of solving math problems!!  Every student who attends will receive a homework pass!!  Please come and join us!!

Keep reading, reading, reading at home.  Remember AR goals......Ask your fifth grader about their book choices.  Our plan is to check out a book and actually read it cover to cover, not take it back after reading two pages (a typical fifth grade disease).

Are you taking the time to check over math homework with your student?  We welcome the one on one time you can spend helping your student understand math concepts.......They also have plenty of time in the morning to ask me or their math teacher for help if something is confusing them.  All they have to do is ask........

Thank you......

September

Thank you all for attending open house last week!  It was great to go over some of the important moments coming up this year!

Remember next week we have early release day on Tues.  We will then start our two day Cogat testing on Wed.  Iowa testing will follow after that.  It is of extreme importance that our students perform the best they can!!

Keep your students reading, reading, reading.  They should be closing in on 10 or 15 AR points by now.  Check with them daily on what they are reading!!

Review math facts and concepts with your student daily or at least weekly.  Not knowing basic facts will result in  your fifth grader struggling in math this year!

Thanks for the great start!

Welcome School Year 2008 - 2009

Fifth grades have started strong, and we are already busy at work.  We have much to do this year!!  Parents, help us out by checking student agendas each night and reviewing assignments due the next day. Fifth graders using their classtime wisely should not have lots of homework, but should be reading for pleasure an average of twenty minutes per night.  We have visited the library and have chapter books to read!

Parents can also help by making sure students get a good night's sleep and have a healthy breakfast!!

Our first math unit is place value, data analysis, and graphing.  Our first science unit is landforms (earth science) with Ms. Raymond.

Thank you for all your help!  See you at Open House on Sept. 4th!!

Countdown

The countdown for end of the year and for the CRCT has begun!!

Keep in mind that your student can be practicing online as much as possible for the upcoming CRCT.  We begin on Wed. April 23rd -- just around the corner after spring break.....

This is the final grading period before middle school.  Help your student stay on top of their assignments and responsibilities.  Organization will be THE KEY for a successful middle school transition.

Remember to send in your immunization forms as soon as you have visited the doctor this spring.  Many of our students need their second varicella or the paper work to show they've had it before middle school will register them.

Middle school registration forms come home this week.  Complete them as soon as possible and return them to school.

Thank you for making this transition and the end of the year easier for all of us!!
