 Please be in bed at an early hour.  Please make sure you eat breakfast.  Wear layers of clothes, I keep the classroom chilly.  Bring a healthy snack.

Bonus Work

Parents,

   I was going to send home bonus work this weekend.  However I want to enssure that the student is completing it on their own.  Since we finished Stone Fox, I will be using the reading time to complete this work.  Thank you so much.

Onomatopoeia Words

To make our writing interesting we use onomatopoeia words (words that sound like a sound). Today we learned about them in the media center while we listened to the book, "A Log's Life." Afterwards, each student contributed a onomatopoeia word to the TAGZEDO we created below:

We are using the same words from last week.  There is NOT any nightly homeowrok, just what ever you feel they need to do to prepare for the test on THURSDAY.  This will count as 2 spelling grades.

HOMEWORK::ignore the below list, but did not want to delete to retype next week

Monday-  Have your child define the terms with dashes (-) and show me you know the parts/pieces of the words with stars (**)

example for the word COLLEGE, the definition is==it is an institution of learning,   but if they are just tell me about college(s) they might list the ones in Georgia like UGA, Ga. Tech, West Ga. etc.

Tuesday- Write the words 4 times each.

Wednesday- Using ALL the words, either write them in sentences using them correctly or in a story.

Thursday- Pretest with an adult and a signature or note saying that it was given.

Friday- Spelling Test

NEW POLICY

Parents,

   Please sign your child's agenda nightly.  Their homework should be written down in each subject area.  If there is not any homework, that should also be written.  This policy will remain in place till the end of the year.

Parents,

   I  have asked my class to start practicing for the CRCT.  They are to take 3 test a week, all on different days, and count this on their reading log.  They might take the same test over until they earn 100% on the test.  I am including the links for the websites and reminders of the login and passwords for each of them.

Vocabualry Practice

Parents,

   Some students where inquiring with me on how to improve their SRI score.  As you know your child is to read a total of 120 minutes (2 hours) a week.  If your child is reading books below their level or just on their level, this will NOT improve their reading level/score.  What works best to improve reading levels, is reading books above their level, with challenging vocabulary.  Remember, just because your child can read a word, does not mean they understand the word, or all the definitions possible for the word.  So, if you have time to read to your child a higher level book, or have your child read aloud to you a book and stop them on challenging words to see if they can define it.  I have also made a link to a Cobb County site for some vocabulary activities.

Welcome to a New School Year !!!

We had a very busy first week of school.  We have shared brown bags, completed mystery pictures and gotten to know each other very well.  Routines and expectations have been discussed and gone over.  So, now we are jumping in with both feet this second week of school.

We started this week with a review of place value in math, our Sort 1 in spelling, Spectrum stories in reading, map skills and Mountain Language. I am working with them, making sure that  assignments are written in their agendas and making sure they have everything they need for homework.

 We have lots of topics to cover this year and it is important that each child keep him/her self on task.  The class is having a hard time staying quiet while we transition form one topic to the next.  The hallways and restrooms are becoming loud and disrupting other classrooms also.  Please speak with your child of how important it is, with so many students, that we move quickly and quietly through everything and everywhere. 

HOMEWORK Reminder:  Fourth graders will be given homework nighlty except for Fridays:  However this does not include on going projects they might be assigned.

Readingnightly for 20 minutes and recording it on their reading log.  Parents please initial the logs

Math will most time be in their Practice Workbooks it is purple.

Spelling will also be nightly.  Thursday night is a pretest at home and signed or note sent in by parent.
