Counseling Services
Classroom Guidance
The counselor visits each classroom and talks to the entire class about things of interest to boys and girls. Fun activities are planned, and books are often read to help teach lessons on topics such as: getting to know yourself, understanding feelings, getting along with others, test taking strategies, and making good choices.
Small Group Counseling
The counselor works with small groups of children who have similar concerns. In small groups, students are able to share ideas, provide support for each other, and also learn from each other. Examples of small group topics include anger, divorce, grief, and self-concept. Students are usually referred to these groups by teachers and parents. Sometimes a student refers him/herself.
Individual Counseling
At times, the counselor may talk to a student privately, particularly if the concern is very private. The counselor is a good listener and problem solver.
