Holiday Party

To celebrate the season of sharing, students have been asked to bring in a stocking to hang in the classroom during the week of December 14-18.  Students may bring in a small treat such as an eraser, pencil, or small piece of candy to share with everyone in the class to stuff the stockings on December 17. 

Our holiday party will be on Thursday, December 17th from 1-2 p.m.  We will have a small craft and enjoy each other's company in the spirit of the season.  This is a short time after our lunch period so we are asking that table 1 bring in something salty (chips), table 2 bring in something sweet (cookies), table 3 bring in plates, napkins, cups & forks and table 4 bring in 2 liters of clear drinks (7UP or Sprite).

This is the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics site. The above link provides homework support for parents. Included are web bytes for elementary grades, and family homework support tips. Illuminations is great for online activities.

The free math website Kidsnumbers offering games for a number of mathematical skills. Definitely work checking out!

In Pete’s PowerPoint Station there are math PowerPoint presentations as well as helpful links for kids. Click on the area that your student needs to work on and scroll down for kid’s activities or try out a PowerPoint.

A+ Math – this site contains flashcards, homework helpers, game room, and worksheet creator.

SkillsTutor

Today we spent some time working on SkillsTutor. You can use it at home as well by going to www.myskillstutor.com. This information was also sent home with login information on a bright pink sheet of paper.

This is a great way to practice important skills in all areas.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who attended Open House tonight! We had a tremendous turn out & it was wonderful to see so many families. I do understand family obligations & I know that we'll catch up with everyone else very soon!

Open House

Big Shanty's Open House will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at 6:30 PM. Please plan to attend our session first as I am also a Big Shanty mom and will be attending my daughter's class presentation during session two. During Open House, I will present information on the 5th grade curriculum, expectations,procedures, etc. I hope to see everyone there!

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!

We really enjoyed meeting so many families at Sneak a Peak & have had a fabulous beginning to our school year! We are getting into the routine of following the many expectations set forth by being the leaders of Big Shanty.

We have spent a great deal of time getting ourselves organized for a productive year ahead. It is going to be an awesome year!!!
